India’s growing incidence of hypertensive and diabetic patients contribute to a great prevalence of kidney related diseases. It is estimated that every 5th patient with high blood pressure and every 7th patient with diabetes will develop chronic kidney disease (CKD). Currently, the rate of CKD in India is estimated at 0.2%. This translates into approximately 2,000,000 patients. In many cases, this progresses to chronic renal failure, affecting over 200,000 patients each year. Other common kidney related disorders in India are urolithiasis, urinary tract infections, glomerulopathies and disorders regarding body fluids and electrolytes. |
